In October, on the same day we were licensed two years prior, we celebrated the adoption of A and H. We were so blessed by the presence of our family and friends, who stood by us, encouraged us, texted us on court dates, prayed for us, supported us, fed us, and were truly the hands and feet of Jesus to our little family. There were many times during this journey when we faced roadblocks that seemed impossible to maneuver, D and I would look at each other and say, “If we make it to adoption day, we are going to throw a party and celebrate!”
So that’s what we did. We had invitations made especially for this day. We booked a venue, procured a caterer, convinced my mom and D’s grandma to make cobblers for dessert, and I got to work on all the little things… table arrangements, writing out our story to display for people to read, coming up with activities for the kids (and those that are kids at heart), and with just a few weeks before the party, a friend gave me an idea. Why not dedicate A and H at the party? All of our friends and family would be there- the likelihood of that happening again was slim-to-none. And so as we celebrated their adoption into our family, D and I made public our commitment to raise them in a Godly home, to know that God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to die on the cross for our sins, that we might not only be rescued from our sin but adopted into His family also, that we are children of God.
It was the perfect day, a great celebration of all that God has done in our lives, a time of thanksgiving for the blessings He has given us. We are humbled that God would choose us to be the parents of A and H.
